Joe Kress is an Artist/Producer/Mixer/Engineer best known for his work with Harry Styles, Modern English, Liz Phillips, Annea Lockwood, Real Estate, Big Thief, Earl Slick (David Bowie), World Team Racing, Mia Alma, Karriem Riggins, David Torn, John Scofield, and many more. He has assisted world renowned engineers such as Phil Joly (Lana Del Rey, The Strokes, Daft Punk), Mario McNulty (David Bowie, Laurie Anderson, Lou Reed, Prince), and Chris Daly (Porches, Frankie Cosmos, Vagabon). Joe draws upon his diverse background as a classically trained trumpet player, experience in field recording, sound art, modern classical/avant garde, and indie rock to realize artist’s visions.
As a performer, Joe has had the honor to perform at Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center Atrium, Merkin Concert Hall, Roulette, The Neuberger Museum of Art, Queens Museum, Bard College, and The Kerhonkson Sacred Firehouse.
Sandbox Fight Records is a Recording Studio but more than a physical recording studio it is an amorphous state of mind and being that embodies the spirit of the artist’s work and place: shapeshifting and growing with everyone who passes through. Sandbox Fight Records is about making honest, urgent work that yields to no boundary or restriction, is completely free and makes no compromises. I hold seriously my responsibility as an engineer/producer to help realize and support anyone’s vision and make impactful change through sound.
Joe maintains formal studies with Dr Richard Brown (Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University) and Dr Patricia Gerbarg (Assistant Clinical Professor in Psychiatry, New York Medical College) where he is a certified Breath Body Mind practitioner. In addition to musical endeavors, Joe is a world renowned pizza chef with pizzas featured in the New York Times, T magazine, Esquire, Wall Street Journal, Hudson Valley Magazine, and Westchester Pizza Reviews.
